FAO of the United Nations award 2-year iVMS contract in Malawi monitoring artisanal fisheries to improve sustainability.
AST Networks is pleased to announce a new inshore vessel monitoring project to support the FAO and the Malawi Department of Fisheries in improving the sustainability of fisheries targeting Blue Mbuna and Dogtooth Cichlid in Lake Malawi.
This involves providing an advanced shoreside VMS application (GAP) including local VMS and hardware installation training and support services. Catch reporting – AST Networks is supplying a bespoke Malawi Fisheries the iCatch application to enable catch data to be reported to the Department of Fisheries via the Fishers own phones.
The new anti-tamper AST Networks iVMS cellular-based Xtreme GPS tracker was installed on 40 VMS pair trawlers operating on one of Africa greatest lakes – Lake Malawi.
