Operating on the Iridium satellite network, the LT-4200S provides truly global coverage, including Sea Area A4 and polar regions – areas where legacy systems historically relied on HF radio due to lack of satellite access. This breakthrough eliminates the need for separate HF equipment for compliance in high-latitude waters, simplifying vessel setups whilst improving reliability and reach.

In addition to distress alerting and Maritime Safety Information (MSI) broadcast, it supports direct safety voice calling, a vital feature in emergencies where spoken communication can save lives. Unlike earlier systems, the LT-4200S allows users to place both emergency and standard voice calls, alongside data connectivity for email and basic internet access. This all-in-one capability makes the terminal an ideal candidate, not just for GMDSS compliance but also as a backup communications system for day-to-day operations – offering crews and operators peace of mind through redundancy and reliability.
