SATMAR Revolutionises Polish Connectivity at Sea in Partnership with AST Networks, EutelSat OneWeb and Kymeta Flat-panel Technology

Introduction

AST Networks were approached by approved technical partner, SATMAR, to help them design and deliver high-speed connectivity for their customer operating across the Baltic Sea. SATMAR are a satellite communication & IT service company who have been bringing connectivity onboard marine vessels since 2012. They pride themselves in their buyer-centric approach, remaining focussed on help and support, ensuring their customers purchase solutions are right for their specific needs and purpose.

The Challenge

The Baltic Sea often faces challenges in accessing high-speed internet connectivity, impacting various industries that rely on efficient communication systems. Traditional satellite communication systems have limitations in terms of speed, latency, and coverage. Working together, SATMAR and AST Networks needed to address these limitations and adopt an innovative solution to effectively address these challenges.

The Fairplay fleet of tugboats in Poland were seeking a new solution onboard their vessels to provide faster and more reliable connectivity solutions. With over 100 vessels in the fleet, 25 being in Poland, this exciting collaborative project with SATMAR and AST Networks will highlight the benefits of using a cutting-edge connectivity solution. Due to limited available space for technology on smaller working vessels, both companies had to provide a solution that not only delivered but was lightweight and low-profile.

The Solution

Working together SATMAR and AST Networks identified the KYMETA u8 Peregrine terminal, in use with the Eutelsat OneWeb service, as a game-changing solution in satellite communication technology that will provide enterprise grade connectivity in a low-form facto user terminal. Utilising OneWeb’s global communications network – which leverages a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, the KYMETA u8 Peregrine terminal delivers high-speed, low-latency internet access to even the roughest of seas. This innovative technology will bridge connectivity out at sea, facilitating enhanced communication and operational efficiency for businesses and organisations in the Baltic region.

Utilising the AST Networks INTEGRA network allows the Fairplay fleet to view and manage traffic, offering better control of bandwidth as well as providing live alerts against the customer's monthly usage limit, helping them control their spend.

The customers plan enables them to have a cost-effective solution providing bandwidth far greater than the L-band connection that they relied upon previously, and decreases their latency, providing a Committed Information Rate (CIR).

The successful installation of the terminals is a significant milestone in SATMAR and AST Networks voyage towards delivering consistent, and business efficient, satellite communication solutions. AST Networks partnership with SATMAR promises to deliver seamless airtime connectivity, further improving the reliability and ongoing performance of the installation.DSC01088.jpg

The Results

By harnessing the power of Eutelsat OneWeb’s global communications network and the KYMETA u8 Peregrine terminal, SATMAR has set a new standard in satellite communication capabilities out at sea. This innovative technology will transform maritime business connectivity, enabling vessels of all sizes to stay connected in remote seas.

SATMAR and AST Networks commitment to excellence and end user satisfaction, helps to solidify their reputations as a preferred supplier for the maritime industry in the Baltics.

This collaboration demonstrates a significant leap forward in delivering high-speed connectivity solutions across the Polish coast, highlighting the importance of innovation, whilst addressing the evolving needs of industries reliant on reliable and efficient communication technology.
