AST Networks understands that maritime safety and efficiency are crucial for smooth operations and proudly stands at the forefront of innovation, providing robust and advanced communication and navigation solutions technology to the maritime sector. Our expertise in high-precision navigation systems has earned us the trust of pilot organisations and maritime authorities worldwide, enabling them to meet the ever-evolving digital demands of the sector.

Introducing SAL SPU-100: A Revolution in High Precision Navigation

We are thrilled to announce the SAL SPU-100, a ground-breaking innovation in high-precision navigation technology, designed to meet and exceed the stringent requirements set forth by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). With the ACP’s recent issuance of Advisory to Shipping No. A-32-2022, a new position system requirement for Neopanamax vessels was introduced in October 2023. The SPU-100 not only fulfils these regulations but sets a new standard for advanced pilotage systems used in ports globally.

As global maritime operations grow more complex, it is anticipated that other major waterways and ports will soon require fixed pilot systems, extending even to vessel with beams of less than 33 metres. The SPU-100 is designed with this scalability in mind, ensuring that it meets both current and future demands for high-precision navigation systems.

The SPU-100 is built on a foundation of proven technology, and its implementation as part of Portable Pilot Units (PPU) by pilot organisations around the world underscores its reliability and effectiveness. It enhances safety and efficiency during vessel navigation in confined waters and during docking operations, providing an independent source of critical navigation data, such as positioning, speeds, heading, and Rate of Turn. This data is derived with superior accuracy and reliability, ensuring a quality level that surpasses standard bridge instrumentation.

The SPU-100 offers an unparalleled level of security against the rising threat of signal jamming and GPD spoofing, which have become increasingly prevalent, not only in high-risk areas such as the Black Sea and Gulf regions, but also in key shipping lanes throughout the Western Europe. Unlike other systems, the SPU-100 remains unaffected by such disruptions, ensuring that vessels can maintain accurate navigation and safety, in even the most challenging environments. The resilience has been rigorously tested by the Norwegian Navy, and white papers detailing these tests are available upon request.

The system has been certified for performance under real signal jamming and spoofing conditions, ensuring uninterrupted and accurate navigation, additionally a back-up battery guarantees continuous operations during power outages, providing ongoing support and reliability in all maritime situations.

Meeting the Panama Canal’s New Regulations

The ACP’s Advisory to Shipping No A-32-2022 outlines the new requirements for Neopanamax vessels, emphasising the need for advanced navigation systems that ensure the highest levels of safety and efficiency. The SPU-100 is a direct response to these requirements, embodying AST Networks’ commitment to innovation and excellence in maritime technology.

By exceeding the ACPs specifications, the SPU-100 positions itself as an indispensable tool for pilots and maritime professionals navigating the Panama Canal – and other critical waterways around the world. Its integration into the PPU systems used by pilot organisations globally, further attests to its capability and reliability.

Conclusión

AST Networks is proud to lead the way in advanced navigation solutions with the introduction of the SAL SPU-100. Our commitment to innovation, safety, and efficiency in the maritime industry remains unwavering as we continue to develop innovative technologies that address the evolving needs of our customers. The SPU-100 is more than just a navigational tool; it is a testament to our dedication to excellence and our vision for a safer, more efficient future in maritime navigation.
